How we look after your child’s information
Last updated 24 September 2026
Future Dux is a tutor for children preparing for the NSW Opportunity Class and Selective tests. A parent sets up each child’s account, and children don’t need an email address. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles and design for children first: we collect only what teaching needs, keep it in Australia, and delete it when it’s no longer needed or when you ask.
What we collect
Your child's first name and school year, the username you create for them, and what they do here: their answers, their chats with the tutor, their writing, the interests they tell us about, and how they seem to be finding the work (for example, frustrated or in the flow). If your child sends a photo of a question to practise from, we read the photo once to copy out the question's words, then delete it straight away: we never keep the photo. We keep the question's words, and you can see them, and delete them, under Children → Photos of questions.
Why
To teach your child: to pick the right next question, to tell questions around what they love, and to show you and them how they're going. We don't sell it, show ads, or use it for anything else.
Who sees it
You and your child see the same picture. Our small team can see it to support you, check the tutor's quality, and read anything the safety screen flags. The AI that tutors your child (Claude, made by Anthropic) runs on Amazon Web Services in Australia and sees what it needs for each turn, never your child's name.
Where it's kept
In Australia, on Amazon Web Services in Sydney. Nothing goes to advertisers or analytics companies.
Your choices
You can download everything we hold about your child, correct it, or delete your child's account and everything in it, at any time, from Children → Privacy & data. Chats, writing and mood signals are cleared automatically after a set time (see how long in our privacy policy).
Notifications
If you or your child turn on notifications on a device, we keep that device's push address until they're turned off; each notification is encrypted end to end on its way through the browser's push service (Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft), and we only send one when a person does something for you (like “Mum sent you a challenge”), never as a reminder.
About you
For your own account we keep your email address and your sign-in (handled by Amazon Cognito, in Sydney). If you join the waitlist we keep your email and, if you tell us, your child’s school year, only to send you an invite.
Keeping children safe
What a child types, and any words they’ve written on a photo of a question they send, is checked for signs they might not be okay. If something worrying comes up, the child is shown Kids Helpline straight away, and a person on our team reads it and decides what to do. Parents aren’t told automatically, because a worry can be about home. Where the law allows, we may not share these records if doing so could put someone at risk.
How long we keep things
Your child’s learning record (answers, progress and review schedule) is kept while their account exists, because reviewing skills weeks later is how we check they’ve stuck. Other records are cleared automatically:
| What | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Chats with the tutor in Learn | 12 months |
| The get-to-know-you chat (what's learned stays in the profile) | 90 days |
| Pieces of writing and their feedback | 12 months |
| Messages between a child and their grown-ups, how a child explained a puzzle or a challenge and what we said back, and a grown-up's tip on a challenge | 12 months |
| How a child seemed to be finding the work (frustrated, in flow) | 90 days |
| The tutor's record of how it chose to teach | 12 months |
| Tutor replies set aside for a quality check | 90 days |
| Waitlist entries that never became an invite | 12 months |
| Questions a child looked at before sending a dare | 30 days |
| Codes a parent made to sign in on their phone (each works once, for 10 minutes) | 1 day |
| The record of a notification sent to a device (which chat or puzzle it was about) | 7 days |
| A device's notification address, once notifications stop reaching it (5 failed in a row and none delivered for a week) | 7 days |
| The words of a question a child photographed to practise from, the hints on it and the practice that came from it (the photo itself is never kept: it's deleted as soon as it's read) | 12 months |
When you delete your child’s account, everything about them is deleted straight away.
Your rights
From Children → Privacy & data you can download everything we hold about your child, correct their name or school year, and delete their account. From Settings → Delete your account you can delete your own account: for each child you added, you choose whether a co-parent takes them over or their account is deleted too. You can also ask us to take you off the waitlist at any time. For anything else, or if you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, email jr@futuredux.com. If we can’t sort it out, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Cookies
We use cookies only to keep you signed in: one for the session and, for a parent, an encrypted one that keeps you signed in on that device for up to 30 days. Signing out removes both. Your browser also remembers a few display choices on your own device, like the colour theme; they never leave it. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Changes
If we change what we collect or why, we’ll update this page and ask you to agree again.
